Loddon Mallee Regional Consumer Think Tank
To explore consumer engagement across the Loddon Mallee region, a “Think Tank” was held online on 13 August 2024.
Bringing together a mix of consumers, health service representatives and rural health researchers, the group were tasked to understand current practices, identify areas that can be improved and make recommendations on how to reach and support diverse consumers.
Eight consumers and eleven staff attended and shared openly with genuine interest in meaningful engagement. Four themes emerged from the discussion including ways of working that assist in:
- Creating value
- Offering flexible engagement approaches
- Providing support
- Reaching the quieter voices
LMICS, Bendigo Regional Cancer Centre and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance have a shared goal to support and build the capacity of rural and regional consumers to engage and participate in advocacy activities. Plans are underway to further this important conversation and implement meaningful improvements.
