Enhancing cancer care in the Northern Mallee region

Background

In 2022, LMICS funded a Models of Care (MOC) project for the collective of health services in the Northern Mallee area. This was implemented by a consultancy group and became an elongated project due to COVID 19.

A MOC outlines an approach to delivering integrated cancer services and care within the scope and capability of a sub-regional health service.

8 enhancement opportunities arose from the Mildura MOC project. To facilitate their implementation, on the advice of and in collaboration with local agencies, LMICS established the Northern Mallee Regional Cancer Advisory Group (NMRCAG) and recruited a local Project Manager to support the implantation work of this group.

Purpose

The project aims to improve cancer care across the Northern Mallee Region. The project has carriage to implement the 8 opportunities to enhance local cancer care.

What we are doing

11 LMICS member organisations from across the district have formed the Northern Mallee Regional Cancer Advisory Group (NMRCAG). LMICS’ locally based Project Manager is supporting the implementation of these Enhancement Opportunities through collaborative efforts with member organisations, aiming to foster robust working relationships and achieve unified service delivery in cancer care throughout the region.

Outputs

To date, the project has generated important insights about services’ roles, their contributions to cancer treatment journeys, and strategies to reduce organisational silos across the community.

Impacts

The NMRCAG meets bi-monthly to guide the implementation work and strategise how best to act on the identified needs for a more tailored approach to meet the distinct needs of the Northern Mallee region.
