Improving survivorship care after childhood cancer
The end of cancer treatment for children and young adults is a challenging time, when it can be difficult to know what support is available and whom to contact.
The Victorian Statewide Collaboration to Improve Cancer Survivorship Care is a strategic partnership between the VICS and the Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre (ACSC) to facilitate a statewide approach to high-quality survivorship care.
The VICS’ Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service (PICS), through extensive consumer engagement, developed 2 resources dedicated to improving survivorship care for children, young adults, and their families and carers:
- Community Supports after Childhood Cancer Treatment: A quick reference guide enabling families to easily identify and contact community organisations providing the practical, social and emotional support they need after finishing treatment (implemented across Monash Children’s Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital)
- After Cancer Care: A guide to what to expect after the completion of childhood cancer treatment and the role of the ‘Survivorship Clinical Nurse Consultant’ (currently available at the Royal Children’s Hospital, and will be adapted to represent end-of-treatment service provision at Monash Children’s Hospital)
