VICS Optimal Care Summits melanoma consultation 2022

Our first strategic consultation on melanoma was held in 2022.

The summit event, co-chaired by A/Profs Phil Parente and Victoria Mar, was held on 14 October with 83 active participants. This summit was the first hybrid event held by the VICS Optimal Care Summits program.

Recommendations

Actions identified at the summit to address unwarranted variations in melanoma care were grouped into 3 themes:

  1. Increase rates of discussion of melanoma patients at multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs) through MDM redesign, to achieve a minimum of 60% or determined optimal number of patients by 2025, compared to 40% in 2021
  2. Improve local access to diagnostic tests and treatment
  3. Improve care coordination through increased supportive care screening to better identify supportive care needs, provide appropriate patient information, facilitate referrals, and coordinate care.
