Optimal Care Clinical Indicators

WCMICS led the statewide VICS project to support effective implementation of  Australia’s Optimal Care Pathways (OCPs), by developing and piloting a suite of clinical indicators to monitor unwarranted variation in cancer care. This project leverages existing clinical indicator work and will implement a standardised monitoring and reporting process.

Twenty-one indicators were identified from existing data sources, covering diagnosis, treatment, and coordination across the patient journey and piloted across ICS regions. The final indicator set and reporting framework have now been developed and endorsed, establishing a consistent statewide approach to monitoring and improvement aligned with the Victorian Cancer Plan 2024–2028.

Data sources:

  • Victorian Statewide Cancer Clinical Indicator Platform (SCIP)
  • Cancer Services Performance Indicator (CSPI) audits
  • Victorian data Access Linkage Trust (VALT).
