Scripted exercise therapy model of care, GV Health
The project aim was to review best practise evidence and develop a framework for providing evidence based scripted exercise therapy (SET) as part of routine therapy for advanced cancer patients within GV Health.
The project was carried out in two distinct phases.
Phase one involved establishment of the SET working party, an extensive literature review, comparison of four health service SET models, quantitative and qualitative data collection to deeper understand the GV Health current state and pathways.
Phase two involved the development of the framework and pathways for implementation of SET within GV Health. A pilot ‘proof of concept’ was undertaken to measure the effectiveness of the developed framework, ease of implementation, record patient interest and program outcomes. Results from the pilot showed patients who participated improved their physical function and reported higher wellness indicators.
A final report, operations manual, and business case were submitted for project sponsor and executive endorsement and will support future funding applications for establishment of a SET program within the Community Rehabilitation Centre at GV Health.
This work is supported by an HRICS service improvement grant.
