Victorian paediatric oncology care pathways
This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.
Oncology care pathways can be used by health services and professionals to identify gaps in current cancer services and inform quality improvement initiatives across all aspects of the care pathway. Clinicians can also use the pathways to promote discussion and collaboration between health professionals and families affected by cancer. The pathways can help health professionals who may only have discrete involvement at one step in the cancer care pathway, to understand the whole continuum of care.
The paediatric oncology care pathways below are intended as reference point for general practitioners (GPs) and paediatricians to guide decision-making regarding referral to a paediatric cancer service and supporting shared care arrangements. They also provide guidance for the paediatric cancer service in the referral process to survivorship clinics and transition to adult healthcare.
This document is not intended to be a clinical practice guideline (CPG) and does not replace expert, multidisciplinary, professional advice or clinical trial demands.
This document, dated May 2019, includes the Victorian paediatric oncology care pathway fundamentals of care, applicable to all tumour streams – plus oncology care pathways for acute leukaemia, central nervous system tumours, and solid tumours.
