Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (SMICS) logo

SMICS is a partnership of 4 health services in the southeast of metropolitan Melbourne:

Collectively, these services deliver more than 80,000 episodes of acute cancer care per year – including medical, surgical, radiation oncology, day chemotherapy, imaging, pathology, palliative care, psycho-oncology, supportive care, and allied health services.

These services will grow in the coming years, with the expansion of Casey Hospital and the growth in cancer service provision within the private sector.

Governance

Our SMICS Governance team is made up of:

  • SMICS Clinical Directors
  • SMICS Program Manager
  • Executive Director of the South East Metro Health Service Partnership
  • CEOs or nominees from each of our member services above
  • Consumers
  • Primary Health Network (PHN) representative
  • MPCCC co-directors.

The SMICS Governance Committee is supported by a Clinical and Data Advisory Committee and other sub-committees such as our Consumer Advisory Group or a sub-regional service planning committee, as needed.

The strength of our governance provides the framework for SMICS’ work as the cancer service improvement network for southern Melbourne – linking and supporting cancer care stakeholders to identify and implement initiatives that improve the care and support provided to people who receive treatment for cancer in our region.
