Barwon South Western Regional Integrated Cancer Service (BSWRICS) logo

The BSWRICS catchment covers approximately 33,000 km2, from the tip of the Queenscliff Heads to the South Australian border.

It is home to Geelong, Victoria’s largest provincial urban centre, and a number of significant regional towns including Hamilton, Portland, Colac and Warrnambool. The current population of the Barwon South Western region is around 440,000.

In this region, 3,269 cancer diagnoses were recorded in the 2021 VCR data. The leading types of cancer in the BSW region are:

  • Genitourinary: 18%
  • Prostate: 14%
  • Breast (female only): 11%
  • Haematological: 9%
  • Skin: 8%
